Tuesday, January 6, 2009

Well, it's 5:15 on a Tuesday.  And I'm beat.  About to head out the door to go to Yoga Now Chicago for my yoga teacher training.  Only a few more weeks and I'll complete my teacher training.  Can't wait.

Need to stop by the post office, get some gas, pick up a lottery ticket, pick up dry cleaning, go grocery shopping, mail my New Year's cards.... ugg will the personal crap never end.

So I may try blogging again.  I'm doing a bit more personal writing.  Stephanie gave me a 5-Year Diary, which is helping me document my life a bit and I started the picture a day project a while ago on Flickr.

I really like the 5-Year Diary.  There's a page a day, with five entries on a page where you can write in the year and a couple of lines about who you saw and what you did.  It complements my Day in the Life picture project where I'm trying to take a photo a day of the things I'm doing and people I'm seeing.  Right now the pictures are boring... early January and not too much going on.
I post to Flickr from Yahoo! mobile and then I've added an app to Facebook to pull in the pictures to my profile.

Need to thinks of a picture to take tonight.  I've already taken a ton of pics of my fellow yoga teacher trainees.  Oh well.  TTFN.

Quick Update

Hello! I can't believe so much time has passed since my last post. Basically, I received a job offer for a great job, but in Chicago... not San Diego. And I accepted the offer. I have since found a place to live, moved all of my worldly possessions, found a renter for my place in San Diego and have started my new job and life in Chicago. Everything is fantastic. I really, love my job. I've never said that before and meant it as much as I do in this instance.

It's a start up company with a great opportunity. Every employee is on the same page when it comes to focus and mission. It's not like starting at a company that is five or 10 years old and some people are burnt out and bitter and negative. It's great. And I'm working on projects that are so exciting. Like building a brand and logos and marketing plans. I am truly reinvigorated and inspired right now.

I'll write more. The delay was that I just got internet set up at home this past Saturday. Could I have moved more slowly. Don't think so. More to come!

Reinvigorated!

I can't tell you how excited I am about the possibilities of life again! Wow! What a difference a month makes... just a month ago, I was extremely low. My prospects were not good. Since opening myself up, everything has changed. I'm moving to Chicago! And I am so excited. Even the thought of snow can't damper my spirits right now. So, since my last post, I've accepted the position, flew to Chicago and found a great apartment to rent in Lakeview.

I flew in last Wednesday and my Aunt picked me up from the airport. We drove around and the first few neighborhoods we saw were ok. I was pretty underwhelmed. I kept telling myself that it would be ok... I would grow to love it. But then we picked up my cousin and she drove us to Lakeview and I was like, this is it! Love it!

The next day we went and looked at several rentals I found on CraigsList. Again, very underwhelmed. I was getting really worried... (p.s. can I tell you how surprised I am at how expensive it is to rent there... as much or more than when I was renting in La Jolla, CA). Then I put it out there, like in The Secret, that I was going to find a fabulous place to live in. And then we stopped at a real estate office and the next place I saw was it! Right on the main street of Lakeview above a bakery, next to a bar and ice cream shop! Two blocks from Anthropologie! Two blocks!!!! A block from the grocery store. The street is lined with boutiques and salons and restaurants and is very safe. The place itself is charming, hardwood floors, bay window, built in hutch. Kitchen and bathroom old and dated. But wait, it gets better. The next day after signing my lease, the leasing agent calls and says the landlord wants to gut the bathroom and re-do it with granite and marble!! Gut it!!! Woot!!! So excited!!

Anyway, I'm so happy! Yeah for me!

Happy New Year!

Welcome to 2007! Officially, the YEAR of SARAH! Yes, I'm declaring it my year. This is the year that many of my dreams will come true. Which ones you ask? WELL, just stick around my friend and find out.

So, last night was a fun, low-key evening. Drove up to Del Mar to Charlotte's house to celebrate NYE with her. Her friend Andrew was there. He has plans to introduce me to two fellows. We shall see... Both in their 40s. Not so sure about that. Keeping an open mind though. So weird, I seriously almost panic'd last week when Skelly brought up introducing me to a guy. She had pictures so that may have made it more real. Right now it's all talk. We'll see how I react when I get closer to actually meeting one of these guys.

Anyway, after drinks and apps, we trotted off to Il Forniao at the Plaza and had a very nice enjoyable dinner. Our waitress was so cute and fun. Tricia. She was from Ohio, like Charlotte. Back in school to become an acupuncturist. She was sharing bad date stories with us. I totally should have gotten a photo of the three of us.

As we were leaving the plaza, we were (or rather Charlotte was) accosted by this guy Richard, who desperately wanted her number and to take her out. He had a friend with him Guy. From a distance, Guy looked ok. But upon closer inspection, you'd note, the white rumpled button down shirt with the buttons on the collar AND the cigarette burns on his face. At least that's what we thought they were. Perhaps they were just a really bad rash. He ended up following us out across the street and went with us to En Fuego. He was hammered. Very close and loud talker and very/too touchy feely for either one of us. I immediately turned off. Poor Charlotte hasn't mastered my shut up and eye contact avoidance techniques. Of course I've spent years shedding drunks, she is still young yet. The only thing is this guy totally was cramping our style. There was the cutest little hipster in his Amsterdam red zippy and little glasses. Boo. Would have loved to chat with him. He was giving me great eye contact.

Today, we went for a fantastic walk by the coast in Del Mar up the hill to the top of Torrey Pines. Another bitchin' day in San Diego.

Charlotte has offered to let me move in to her second bedroom. I'm about 75% convinced it's the thing to do. I just HATE to leave my condo, even if its for a year to save money. I'll be posting to Craigslist to see if anyone is interested.
